Overwhelming workload, financial demands and tapped out resources are a surefire way to burnout. Stress is a common factor for a majority of the health concerns many experience. Weight gain, cravings, trouble concentrating, un-refreshing sleep, frequent colds and flu and lacking the energy you wish you had, can all be linked to how your body is coping with your stress.
Top tips for stress to keep you at the top of your game…
Deal with Triggers
Are there obvious things you need to deal with? We can band-aid and give you stress-relief supplements all day long, but if you’re in a miserable relationship, despise your job or have other problems bothering you, we need to get those sorted out. Our goal is to deal with the root cause of the issue, and sometimes these can be scary things to get sorted out and may mean HUGE life changes-from ending relationships to finding a new job. Your health is the most important thing to me in this process, and if your health is being affected by x, y or z, we need to get those dealt with ASAP.
Practice Calm BEFORE the Storm
Figuring out how to calm yourself down once you’re already overwhelmed can feel impossible. Practicing calming yourself down, grounding into your safety zone and finding relaxation long before you’re in freak out mode is key. I frequently recommend guided meditations and encourage practice when you’re feeling okay to get into a groove long before it’s crisis time.
Prioritize and Check-In
Things may be crazy with juggling work deadlines, personal goals, kids activities and finding time to sleep, but we must make sure that you’re getting the most important things done first—Anything else you accomplish in a day is icing on top. Sleep MUST be a priority because I’ve seen countless times that when sleep suffers, EVERYTHING suffers. Make a weekly list and DON’T over-schedule yourself. That way you know what’s coming up and those really important things get done first. Reassess your schedule monthly to make sure things are still functioning well and that your schedule is still in line with your priorities.
