Three Reasons to Buy a Dehydrator
Dehydrating is a fantastic food preservation method that I definitely hope more people get excited about and start doing.
We invested in a commercial size dehydrator from Cabella’s a few years ago (because I wanted to dehydrate in bulk and because it contains NO plastic in it) and am so glad we made the purchase!
I wanted to share you with my top three reasons for why I think YOU should buy a dehydrator too.
Delicious Snacks and Treats
Dehydrating fruit is one of the easiest entries into learning about dehydrating! You basically add cut up fruit to the trays and dehydrate it and you’re done! We’ve dehydrated everything from kale chips, banana and apple slices, zucchini chips and home made jerky to fruit roll ups and dehydrated berries like goji, blueberry and cherries.
It’s also a great way to make your dogs and cats treats too! Dehydrated sweet potato is definitely a favourite snack for our dog, but she also enjoys some of the treats we make for ourselves too like the banana and apple chips.
Saves You Money
Dehydrating foods is a great way to save yourself money AND know the quality of the food you’re consuming. Having a food storage option like dehydration means you can purchase things in bulk and get fresh produce at a better cost, saving you a ton of money in the end.
It also means that you can make your own versions of things at home that are significantly marked up in the store to purchase.—think organic greens powder, fruit rolls ups, spices and mushrooms to name a few.
It can also limit wasting food too. Having a food preservation method that’s basically “set it and forget it” allows you to quickly and easily deal with food that you don’t want to go bad that may be on its last legs but you don’t have the time or effort to cook a full meal with.
No Freezer Required Food Preservation Option
So many people don’t have the option to have a huge freezer in their house (or you might have one but it’s full of other things), and so dehydrating is a great option that means you have food storage without the need for more fridge or freezer space.
It also gives you the option to preserve things that don’t store well in a freezer, like mushrooms or many herbs.
