2020 has been designated (by me!), as The Year of the Gut.
I see a ton of patients with digestive complaints, and my goal for the year is to help as many people as I can figure out WHY their digestion isn’t happy so we can finally get them feeling their best.
What’s Common (BUT NOT NORMAL!)
These are complaints that I hear from patients ALL the time…this means they’re common and a lot of people like you may experience them, but they aren’t supposed to be things you’re dealing with!
WHERE’S THE BATHROOM?!
Are you nervous or need to plan ahead when you go out because you’re stressed about needing to use a bathroom ASAP?
STRETCHY PANTS ARE YOUR BEST FRIEND
Do you avoid wearing jeans or your regular pants because you need the extra stretch to accommodate crazy daily bloating that might happen?
RANDOM FOOD REACTIONS
Does a usual meal sometimes bother your stomach and other times it’s totally fine?
AVOIDING FOODS DOESN’T HELP
Have you tried an elimination, FODMAP or other diet that didn’t completely fix things?
HEALTHY EATING DOESN’T HELP
Do you feel like you eat so healthy compared to your friends and family but you STILL don’t feel well?
HEALTHY EATING MAKES IT WORSE
OR, did your upset stomach get worse with healthy eating (I see this a lot with patients doing whole30, keto and paleo for example).
NO I’M NOT PREGNANT, THAT’S JUST MY FOOD BABY
Does your bloating sometimes get so bad that you feel like you look pregnant?
NOT GOING ENOUGH
If you’re only having 1 bowel movement per day OR LESS, you’re definitely dealing with constipation (even if you’ve been like this your whole life…this isn’t ideal!).
GOING TOO MUCH
Are you having more than 3 bowel movements per day? This is too much!
HEARTBURN OR REFLUX IS DRIVING ME NUTS
Are you struggling with heartburn or reflux? Taking tums or antacids are NOT going to solve the problem long term.
THERE ARE DEFINITELY SOME OBVIOUS TROUBLE MAKERS
Are there specific foods that you’ve already figured out will for sure bother your stomach if you eat them?
ANOTHER DOCTOR SAID YOU MIGHT HAVE IBS
I have a lot of patients who’ve been told they have or might have IBS. IBS or irritable bowel syndrome is simply a handful of symptoms and doesn’t help provide the answers to get rid of it.
