As we’re all well aware, 2020 was an absolute dumpster fire. Although some good things came out of it, there was a ton of stress, overwhelm, grief and heartbreak.
While newly approved vaccines will hopefully provide some hope and good news for 2021, I still think it’s really important for us to set goals for the new year.
I’m super nerdy and honestly LOVE spending New Year’s Eve goal setting and thinking about what awesome things I may do with the year ahead, and Dec 31st, 2020 was no exception.
Your goals for this year may be quite different than normal years, and that’s completely okay.
My Goals for 2021
Gluten Free- For Real
In the past when I did my 23andme, I had some snps (single nucleotide polymorphisms) show up that suggest I REALLY shouldn’t be eating gluten. That combined with the fact that I’ve got some family history of autoimmune disease, it should’ve been enough to keep me away from gluten. But it gets worse. Gluten absolutely exhausts me. If you followed me on instagram, or were a part of my Connection Community facebook group, you’ll know that we got heavy into the sourdough making in the spring. It was beyond delicious and lovely, but it was causing symptoms
Grow even MORE greens
In 2020 I was on a definite mission to grow more greens to enjoy all year long and we did a really good job! We grew mustard greens, claytonia (aka miner’s lettuce), a variety large of lettuces, spinach, 3 varieties of kale, 2 varieties of bok choi and 3 varieties of swiss chard. They were all incredible and amazing.
BUT, I want to grow and explore even more varieties to find our favourites and have more options all year long. I purchased seeds for a ‘Granon’ Corn Salad, ‘Top Bunch’ Collards, ‘Giant Red’ Mustard, ‘Monstrueux de Viroflay Spinach, ‘Red Leaf’ Amaranth and ‘Huauzontle’ Red Aztec Spinach!
Needless to say it’s going to be a big greens year!
Continue to build my Food as Medicine Membership
I knew when I launch my Food as Medicine Membership last June that I was going to love it, but I didn’t realize just how much. It brings me so much joy to teach others all about gardening, preserving, foraging and herbal home medicine, and I’m excited about the upcoming changes to the membership! This year we’re officially getting a membership site, I’ll be pulling out content to have a course that ties into the membership and I’m hoping to bring a lot more people into the group! If you’re interested, reply to this email and I’ll make sure you get put on the waitlist for the doors to open again (hint, they’ll be opening again at the end of January!)
Help More Patients with Stress and Digestive Issues
Stress (including anxiety, low mood, overwhelm and how it affects the whole body) and digestion (everything from SIBO and food sensitivities to celiac and heartburn) are my absolute favourite things to treat in the whole world.
I’ve been able to help so many patients on their health journeys, and if you or someone you know is struggling with any of those things (who wasn’t stressed out in 2020), I’m here and would be happy to help!
The lovely thing about my practice is that the majority of it is done via telemedicine and so that means you don’t have to worry about parking, babysitters, or wearing a mask during our visits, as they’re mostly done over video! Click here if you want to book in to see me for a telemedicine visit!
What are YOUR resolutions for the year?
I want to hear what you’ve got planned for 2021! Come find me on social media (facebook or instagram) and let me know! I want to help hold you accountable to your goals too and would LOVE to see you as a patient if you want some more one on one support!
